Hey guys, Dan here from CLE Tech and today we're going to finally take a look at my office and desk setup.
So this is my office, or studio, or whatever you want to call it. It’s always changing but this is currently how my office is setup as of December, 2016.
Starting off with the first desk, which is a white Ikea Linnmon desk, we have my 27" 5K iMac, which was my main editing machine but has now split time with the new Macbook Pro. Personally, I still love my 5K iMac, which is the reason why I haven't gone full Macbook Pro yet. For audio, I use the Polk Hamden bluetooth speakers which sound amazing, especially for the price.
Above my desk are a couple of floating shelfs with some collectibles and Funko pop toys. Ya know, nerdy things.
The desk also has a monitor stand/drawer combo, which is also from Ikea and I use these two drawers to store some things that I might need quickly like hard drives and cables.
Next to this desk, we have some drawers that really have a lot of random items inside like watch bands and smartwatches, paper, some phones, etc.
There are also more phones inside of this desk organizer. These are generally some of the phones that I am testing or have come out recently. I also have quite a few different options when it comes to storage. Currently, I have a Lacie 3TB thunderbolt drive and a G Drive ev dock that can hold a couple G Drives at one time. The key for this is I can dock them when I am sitting at the desk but when I want to be mobile, I can eject them and use a USB 3.0 cable with my laptop.
This setup has worked pretty well for me overall but will change soon as I have recently gone into the world of NAS storage. I will have a video on my NAS storage very soon so stick around for that!
Next up, is another desk that is currently being used as my Macbook Pro setup. Now I use both of these desks in my videos for b-roll shot locations and, for awhile, the iMac was on this desk but I have decided to change things up a bit recently and this is what we have. Starting off with the desk, which is one of the cooler peices of tech in this room, we have a sit/stand desk from Geek Desk.
Now Geek Desk was kind enough to send this out to me awhile back and I have been using it every day and love it. There are many different size options available but for my setup, we have a moderate size desk with the ability to save 4 different preset sizes. Simply raise or lower the desk to the desired height and then save it to whichever number you'd like. For me, not only do I like to stand and work at my desk but I also use the desk a lot during production and being able to raise or lower the height of the desk rather than adjusting the tripod every time is quite nice. Best part is, these desks are very affordable! So if you're in the market for a motorized desk, go check out Geek Desk! I will of course leave a link to as many of the items shown in this video in the description below.
On top the desk, we have, of course, my 2016 15" Macbook Pro with touchbar. The goal or theme for this desk was to try and be as minimal as possible. Behind the computer, and probably the most eye catching part, is this circular light. It's awesome for filming because it really adds an interesting piece of lighting to the background of some shots.
The speakers are the Edifier Luna Eclipse, which are egg shaped and beautiful. Especially in this red color. They can be plugged in directly or be used via bluetooth. If you guys want to see more coverage on this speaker, drop a comment down below letting me know. Finally rounding out the rest of the desk we have a Google WiFi access point and a Caldigit USB-C dock. Both of these products will have their own videos very soon!
Next to this desk I have a 9 cube storage shelf which, honestly, I am still trying to figure out how to utilize this in my office. Right now, it's a hub for my camera batteries and camera equipment. It's also storing some of my headphones and bluetooth speakers.
As mentioned earlier, the top of this shelf is where I keep all my camera gear like different lenses, microphones, and lights for quick access. There will be a series of videos coming soon on how I shoot my videos and what gear I use, so keep an eye out for that very soon.
Next to the shelf, we have a futon. Not only is this futon covered in my dogs hair BUT it's also covered in tech. Yes, this futon has been now dubbed the Reviewton because it holds all the products that are currently in review or need to be reviewed. For reference, this reviewton has not been used as actual piece of furniture since the beginning of 2016...which is when the reviewton was purchased. #reviewton.
Finally, the entertainment portion of the office, which honestly does not get much use because I am usually shooting videos or editing and just don't have time to play games. For what it's worth, we do have a 50” Hisense 4K TV, which honestly, for the price, is a pretty good 4K option. For audio, we have the Bose Solo 15, which is perfect for a room of this size and, of course, we have a few systems hooked up. For someone who really doesn't play a lot of video games, I am not totally sure why I have a PS4, covered in this awesome wooden Toast skin, an Xbox One Halo edition and an Xbox One S which is currently in my living room. We also have the NES Classic but that won't get a lot of play until the extension cables become more widely available or I decide to pick up a bluetooth controller.
The room is tied together with some Hue lights to give the room some color and it helps overall with lighting in videos.
So that's it for now as far as my setup goes. It's always changing and definitely not even close to being complete. Let me know in the comments section below if there is anything that you saw in this video that would be cool to do another video on!
Thanks for watching guys and I will see you in the next one.
